Seamer Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

The England team stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the series beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have been without key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three teammates to reach double figures.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he came back on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of that over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test having missed of the third.
